It’s already been a banner year for Zhou Xunshu. He earned the best finish of his career in May, placing second at the Handa Cup at Beijing Jinhua Golf Club. And shortly after that he was rewarded with a sponsorship from Sun Kingdom Golf Club, the top club in Chongqing. Now, he can also say he’s been featured on CNN.

Last month, Zhou featured prominently in a CNN feature on Chongqing entitled “Chicago on the Yangtze.” You can find both the TV clip and the accompanying web story here.

Here’s how Steven Jiang’s story begins:

Chongqing, China (CNN) — Zhou Xunshu and Yan Qi both grew up in the mountains in southwestern China, but today their hometowns are worlds apart.

Zhou’s home village in a remote corner of Guizhou province remains impoverished.

“Every time I go back, I feel saddened,” said the 37-year-old professional golfer. “It was poor and it’s getting poorer.”

Zhou actually came painfully close to notching the first win of his pro career in Beijing. He held a commanding 5-stroke lead with four holes to play in the third round. But Zhou double bogeyed No. 15 and Chen Xiaoma, his closest challenger, birdied on 16. Zhou’s lead shrank to two strokes heading into his final round. On Sunday, two early bogeys sealed his fate. He shot a 75 to Chen’s 72 and, just like that, victory turned into 1-stroke defeat.

After the 2009 season, the Omega China Tour folded and the China PGA Champions Tour was born. Tournaments have been infrequent, however. Most recently, Zhou finished tied for 11th at the tour’s stop in Yantai last week.

Zhou Xunshu shot a 5-under 67 and enjoyed the best round of his China Tour career Thursday in the opening round of the Luxehills Golf Championship in Chengdu. From the official report:

Australian Josh Lane made a fast start to his Omega China Tour debut by shooting a seven-under-par, bogey-free 65 for a one-stroke lead in the first round of the RMB1 million Luxehills Golf Championship in Chengdu.

Zhang Chengwei and Chen Jian both shot 66 at the Luxehills International Country Club, finishing one ahead of China team amateur David Wei Wei, Zhou Xunshu and Wu Kangchun, the 2007 Sofitel Golf Championship winner. …

Zhou, 36, started last season with two top-10 finishes and rediscovered his form with an impressive 67, which included four birdies on the back nine.

“My mental game was great,” said the former golf course security guard. “The technical side of my game has been fine, but I’ve let myself down with my mental game. I really felt an improvement, more steady and relaxed.”

周训书首轮67杆低于标准杆5杆，两杆之差落后于领先者

周训书今天在成都举办的麓山高尔夫锦标赛首轮中打出了67杆低于标准杆5杆的成绩，这也是他在参加的中巡赛所有的比赛中成绩最好的一轮，以下是欧米茄中巡赛的官方报道：

澳籍球员雷恩（Josh Lane）以65杆，低标准杆7杆单独领先成绩榜。

周训书上升至中巡赛奖金榜第29名

南京 周训书为了更好的成绩而战

星期六比赛对周训书来说是很艰难的一轮，他打出了78杆高于标准杆6杆的成绩，其中包括两个双柏忌，球下水和球打进树丛。此轮比赛过后，周训书以并列第47位的成绩进入到在南京举办的索菲特钟山高尔夫公开赛的最后一天。最后一天的比赛，周的前三洞成绩是标准杆，这时他离前20名也只有四杆之差。Gary Player设计的球场加上强风给这个星期比赛的所有选手们造成了很大的困难。只有三位选手最终以低于标准杆的成绩完赛。点击这里关注最后一轮的实时比分直播。

And that is just what he did. A motivated Zhou rallied for five birdies and registered the sixth best round of the dark and windy day at Zhongshan International Golf Club in Nanjing. The 2-under-par performance vaulted Zhou from 109th place to 33rd on the leaderboard for the second stop on the 2009 Omega China Tour.

“I am happy, very happy,” Zhou beamed after the round. “My wife is happy for me, too. Today I was totally relaxed and I know for this course I can hit 72 no problem.”

Zhou’s second to last hole, No. 8, was perhaps the most satisfying. On Thursday, Zhou registered a quadruple bogey on the 227-yard par 3. It took him four strokes to get his ball out of a bunker. On Friday, Zhou landed his tee shot on the fringe 20 feet to the right of the pin. His cap turned backwards because of the darkness, Zhou used his putter on his second shot. The ball hit the pin and, as Zhou’s caddie Zheng Yunlong yelled “Get in the hole!” in English, it disappeared into the cup for a birdie.

Zhou pumped his fist and greeted Zheng with a fist bump.

“I cursed that hole,” Zhou said. “And I finally got my revenge.”

周训书遵守诺言，打破诅咒，顺利晋级

周训书是个信守承诺的人.星期四晚上,在首轮打出了很糟糕的80杆之后,周训书预测星期五他会打出70杆,进入周末的比赛.

他说到做到.充满动力的周训书重整旗鼓,打出了五个小鸟球,在南京索菲特钟山高尔夫公开赛第二轮的所有选手的当天成绩中排名第六.低于标准杆2杆的成绩也让周训书从第109名一跃至33名,这是2009赛季欧米茄中巡赛的第二战比赛.

“我很高兴，非常高兴.”比赛结束后周训书兴高采烈,”我老婆也很为我高兴.今天我很轻松,我知道这个球场我打72杆没问题.”

周训书今天的倒数第二洞,也是第八洞,可能是最令人满意的了.星期四,周在这个227码标准杆3杆的洞打出了高于标准杆四杆的成绩,他用了四杆把球打出沙坑.星期五的比赛,周训书开球落在了旗杆右边大概20码的地方.天色渐渐暗了,周训书把帽子反着戴了,第二杆他用了推杆.球撞上了旗杆,伴随着周训书的球童郑云龙用英文喊出”Get in the hole!”,球落入洞中,小鸟球！

Zhou Xunshu will be fighting for his life on Friday after shooting a disappointing 8-over 80 Thursday in the opening round of the Sofitel Zhongshan IGC Open in Nanjing, the second stop on the 2009 China Tour. Zhou will need to play extremely well in the second round if he hopes to make the cut in the tournament, which with 144 players boasts the largest, and arguably the strongest, field in the tour’s five-year history.

Playing in gusty winds Thursday, Zhou bogeyed three of the first five holes. After birdieing the par-5 7th, Zhou blew up for a 4-over 7 on No. 8, wasting a handful of strokes trying to get out of a bunker. Zhou settled down after that, and was playing 1-under on the back nine until finishing bogey, double bogey. On the final hole he hit his drive into the trees. On the following shot, he struck a tree with his club, splitting his 6-iron in half. He spent the better part of the afternoon in downtown Nanjing trying to find a replacement iron.

周训书的星期四：糟糕的成绩和打坏了的球杆

星期四在南京索菲特钟山高尔夫公开赛首轮的比赛里，周训书打出了令人失望的80杆，高于标准杆八杆的成绩，这是2009赛季中巡赛的第二战比赛。这也意味着周训书必须在星期五的比赛中打出极其优秀的成绩，才能保证他得以晋级周末的比赛。此战比赛有144位选手参赛，是中巡赛五年历史中参赛人数最多，据说也是实力最强的比赛。

星期四风很大，周训书在前五洞中三洞打出了柏忌。在第七洞五杆洞，周打出了小鸟球，在第八洞为了把球打出沙坑周训书尝试了多次才成功，最后打出了七杆高于标准杆四杆的成绩。这之后周训书稳扎稳打，后九洞的成绩一直在低于标准杆一杆直到最后两洞的柏忌和双柏忌。最后一洞，周训书开球打进树丛，在随后的一杆里，他的球杆打在了树上，把他的六号铁杆打断了。当天下午周训书去了南京市区修补球杆。

Zhou has a month layoff until the next China Tour event, the Sofitel Zhongshan IGC Open in Nanjing April 23-26. This also means it’s back to the daily grind for Zhou at the Hao Yun Driving Range, where he works as a golf instructor. In his month training at the Silport David Leadbetter Golf Academy Zhou was able to focus solely on his golf game and he said it was the first time in his life he really felt like a pro golfer. But Zhou needs to teach in order to pay the bills.

失望的赛季首战后周巡书回到重庆

在离家六个多星期之后,星期天晚上周训书回到了家中和妻子儿子团聚。过去的这几个星期里,周训书一直在上海训练,并参加了在厦门举办的2009欧米茄中巡赛首战—戴尔锦标赛。遗憾的是周训书没能带给家人一个更好的比赛成绩,在首轮打出了很好的71杆低于标准高一杆的成绩后,周在接下来的三天里打出了79，79和76杆的成绩，最终跌到第58名(领先榜)，得到了人民币5,375(美金787)的税前奖金。

离下一站中巡赛比赛还有一个月的时间，下一站索菲特钟山高尔夫公开赛将于4月23到26日在南京举行，对于周来说，这也意味着回到好韵高尔夫练习场继续做高尔夫教练的日复一日的工作。在旭宝大卫利百特高尔夫学院训练的一个月里，周训书可以专心致志地练球，他说这是他到现在为止第一次感觉像个职业球员，但是为了生活，周必须要去教球。
